What was a “Foodfull” 2016 , here’s to a “Sumptuous” 2017!

Hello there! Yes you! Yes I know this can take a bit of a while, but I have pizzas…I promise.

With a close to an extremely eventful year of 2016, let’s look back on some of the highlights we all faced! For many of us, 2016 was all about life-changing events (I’m sure). For most of us, 2016 was marked with a bumpy road of highs and lows alike. However, even with the number of lows, I hope everyone did manage to take a thread of positivity from it. To summarize, I opened up with Trevor in July 2016 with the hope that it would turn into something big. And by all means, it did! Secondly, I feel the need to rant about my two trips to Europe this time, well, more like “food travels” to be specific. And lastly, around 90% of the restaurants mentioned in this blog are all based on invitations (which yes, is a huge achievement for me!).

Firstly, I need to convey my respects and condolences to some great people who left us in 2016. Especially, Glen Frey (from the Eagles), Alan Rickman (from Harry Potter), Prince, Muhammad Ali, George Michael (from Wham!). Not to forget David Bowie, Carrie Fisher (from Star Trek), Debbie Reynolds, Sir George Martin (Producer of the Beatles’ Albums) and Chef Benoit Violier (who ran Restaurant de l’Hotel de Ville in Crissier near the Swiss city of Lausanne).

I started off the blog, with Trevor, as a sort of extension of my passion for food. Finding someway to document my food experiences (cooking and eating out), with Trevor became a sort of diary for me to tell everyone what I was doing. Of course, I firstly have to give the utmost credit to my grandfather, who inspired me to cook, my mother, who showed me how a Lasagne was meant to be prepared, my father, who baked umpteen number of cakes as I grew up, Chef Marco, Chef Vinod, Chef Ashwini, Chef Aziz, Chef Pauline and the entire team of ICCA, who taught how to cook, and last but not least, the whole team at Ronda Locatelli (Atlantis the Palm), Chef Matteo, Chef Salvo, Chef Hareesh, Chef Donald and Chef Genna who had the patience and stamina to teach me how to roll out at least 40 kilos of pasta a day.

I guess one of the biggest stepping stones in this “Blogging Career” was thanks to Zomato UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai). Had it not been for Zomato’s platform of restaurant reviews, occasional meetups, goodie bags and the blogger’s conference, I really don’t know where I would be today! Now a small thread from that is the fact that I do not “review” restaurants, but write about my experiences at one. Granted its not the conventional way to go about being a “food critic”, but a trajectory path towards it, nonetheless.

So how was 2016?

The year of 2016 had me packing my bags and travelling to Europe twice. It had to be of those favorite destinations of all time – Budapest. More importantly, I put myself up at the amazing Carpe Noctem Vitae

Not to forget about the amazing food that came up on the radar…

But then hey, Budapest cannot have all the credit (as much as I hate saying that), moving on to Prague…

And finally, some non-food related snippets from the diary…

After the return to Abu Dhabi, the emails started pouring from one restaurant to another…I guess it all started with Koi and Punjab Grill

From there we went on to the amazing Tamba

And of course, the lovely people at Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, gave me a chance to try out Cho Gao

And then Koi happened again…

Well….how about Stomping Grounds

And then we head back to Crowne Plaza for Spaccanapoli

Let’s not forget about Taste of Abu Dhabi 2016 where I met Chef Marco, Chef Ed BainesChef Orfali and Chef Michael Hunter.

And then an exquisite experience by the lovely team at BU!

I also needed some beautiful Italian food thanks to Frankie’s at Fairmont Bab al Bahr, Abu Dhabi!

With the UAE’s 45th National Day coming in with an amazing show!

And last but not least…Coldplay to bring a beautiful to end to the year of 2016!

2016 was (can you believe it…WAS?!) a year that got me taking blogging a bit more seriously. I had to dwell into the old-fashioned but classy way of marketing…

2016 was also the year I opened up shutter with Trevor – a website solely dedicated to photography!

And last but certainly not least, not to forget that I am utmost grateful and thankful to all my followers especially my 713 Followers on Instagram, the 128 Likes on my Facebook Page, the 275 followers on Twitter that gave rise to the 30 post count in 2016, with over 2000 views and over 1000 visitors.

Oh and before I forget, I also need to give a huge shout out to a buddy-blogger of mine, who has tremendously helped me pave the way for this blogging career – David! Thanks a lot mate!

What about 2017?

Well, the year of 2017 aimed at getting a lot more serious with the whole blogging scene…food blogging to be specific. Some of the key points aimed at this year:

  • Get a little more specific when it comes to dining (Well, as of now, I am planning and putting myself to experience a bit of the high-end and top restaurants in UAE)
  • Perhaps monetize? (I’ve put a pin in it…)
  • Work on a little secret project (that I will reveal a bit later during the year)
  • Planning to give out dining vouchers to my followers (with some of the collaborated restaurants)
  • Increase the number of followers on Facebook and Instagram specifically
  • Lastly,  increase the number of recipes that I put up (oh and finally get started with the Travel Diaries!)

Hope this has been a whopping post (of really a lot of pictures in there), but I guess I had to elaborate a bit this time. Do let me know if you’d like to see something new or different.

Cheers to 2017….a year of change!
