The sole purpose behind a travel plan, a road trip or a hotel getaway, is to get as far as possible from the monotony of the routine. Personally, I would prefer a travel to the airport, and then outwards to somewhere unknown. However, there are times when a hotel stay can take care of your needs, when time is a bit crucial (or your leave hasn’t been sanctioned). Nestled about 30 minutes away from downtown Abu Dhabi, is a hotel that hits the right notes when you want to getaway. Mafraq Hotel, is a four-star premier hotel that truly represents, what we otherwise refer to as an oasis.
I guess one of the truly remarkable things of this property has to do with its long history. Running since the golden years of the 80’s, Mafraq hotel has seen a lot of refurbishment and revamp in its life. There’s a reason I mentioned this point. It’s because I could visually see that the hotel does have an immense amount of experience as to giving their guests the perfect amount of hospitality. That feeling of peace, being far away from stress, is absolutely beautiful.
It was somewhere in the year of 2001, when I walked into this hotel (as a kid, obviously), and the only three things I remember since then were the numerous sand dunes around the hotel, the crystal blue swimming pool and the scrambled eggs for breakfast were just…delicious. Of course, 16 years onwards, a lot of things have been given an uplift.
For instance, the hotel features a beautiful choice of rooms, with options that overlook and have direct access to the swimming pool. A gym that was recently refurbished (for the gym freaks). As well as a stylish swimming pool, with a pool bar! On the list of dining venues, the hotel features an all-day dining restaurant (The Olive Branch), a sports pub (Hunter’s Bar) and many more options to satisfy those hunger cravings.
With the privilege to dine at the beautiful Olive Branch (a restaurant that looked a lot different back in 2001), I must say that the food served here was inexplicably fresh. For a restaurant that was miles away from the city, and with the variety of dishes on the buffet table, I was definitely impressed. It wasn’t about liquid nitrogen stuff, or shavings of truffle on pasta, it was the simplicity and freshness with what everything was delivered. That was what made it memorable!
It’s quite simple when deciding what to do for a weekend getaway. The main factor to influence that decision, should obviously be getting away from all the stress. For the peace, serenity and calmness it has to offer, I’d be sure to look at Mafraq Hotel!
