Probably one of the biggest questions every morning is “How should I make my coffee for the day?” While its easier make instant coffee, brewing ground coffee is a different story! That different story begins with a whif of freshly ground coffee early in the morning. As soon as you dig in a spoon and drop it in your French press, you know this day is going to go good! Aside from the regular (or relatively easier) method of just using a press, Stomping Grounds at Dubai Jumeirah offers more. Offering around 7 Espresso-based drinks, along with 8 Filter-based steeps, it’s difficult to decide on which brew to choose! Aside from the numerous options for coffee, the food is just too good too!
The place is…gorgeous! Went there with a friend and it was quite difficult to decide whether to be seated outside or inside. Obviously, the strong (and good) aroma of coffee called us in. Pretty much like how Jerry gets tempted when it comes to cheese…

Don’t we all just love T&J? Anyways, you can understand what we went through while entering Stomping Grounds.
Alas, we finally decided to sit right in front of where the coffee magic happens (where all the scientific coffee filtration systems and espresso machines were). So of course, with a bit of conversation and looking around, we finally decided to call a few items from the menu for dinner.
Now before we get on with the food, I must remind you that brewing coffee is more like an art of chemistry – that involves, pressure, temperature and measurement! If you’re an instant coffee lover, I suggest trying out an espresso or a black coffee and get affined to that taste. Yes, I know its bitter and strong…but suck it up because its so good! In other words, you’re really missing out!
So with a bit of “Professional Foodie Debate”, we thought of trying out the (rather) extravagant items on the menu and we ordered just enough to call it dinner!
Beef & Foie Gras Sliders
I’m not really a fan of sliders (to be honest). But this combination of Foie Gras, Truffle Mayo and pickles onions to cushion up a juicy beef patty was absolutely gorgeous! Quite the right way to turn my sense of judgement, every bite kept me (us, rather) wanting more! Now a simple burger often calls far raw veggies put on a bun with a good spread and a juicy patty. This however, even though quite pricey, is absolutely a must try! (If you’re a fan of foie gras that is). But then again, truffle mayo makes up for everything, doesn’t it?
To be honest, trying out venison in a lasagne was a bit daring. But my friend’s and my affection for Italian food just couldn’t get the better of us. I remember trying out Vension while working at Atlantis. We were trying out a new Tagliatelle recipe, and venison just gave the ragu more impact (if you know what I mean). Quite stuffed with flavor, as we already were from the sliders, it was a sort of battle to plate this down. While it as a bit “too cheesy”, the deep and bold flavor of the venison ragu was incredible! Layered beautifully with gouda, parmesan, béchamel and the sheets themselves, the lasagne checked all the boxes of what Comfort Food is! Definitely…a must have!
Yeah, by now we were up to the brim with food! Maybe it seems less in terms of quantity, but in terms of flavor it was definitely filling! And to top it off, dinner time was not meant to leave us crawling back home. To sweeten things up a bit, we called for an apple crumble along with some coffee (well, we were there anyways…so why not!) The apple crumble was a sort of deconstructed version of the classic. Quite perfectly topped with a rustic version of crumble, the base of which was a lovely stew of apples! Not extremely sweet (thank God!), this was quite the right type of dessert to end a beautiful meal. Of course…we went for the coffee too…
While my friend decided to go for a safer alternative and try out one of the Espresso-based Cappuccinos, I was a bit daring…
Served elegantly in a beaker-style flask, this aeropress version is phenomenal! I must speak for both versions of the coffee though, they were absolutely beautiful! Quite perfectly what tasting coffee should be about, both types of coffee were bold in flavor and had that perfect amount of bitterness to it.
Now, we did go around trying to sample the aromas of different types of coffees and tea, which are rustically laid out in the lab. Oh boy, did we have quite an amazing coffee experience!
Stomping Grounds is a lovely place and definitely a must-visit! It offers a good range of “All-day” bites that go from croissants to pancakes and scones. Of course, with a separate breakfast menu that goes from 8AM – 1 PM, I am definitely going there again to try out the Lunch Menu! It features a “Pulled Beef Sanga” and an “Aussie Venison Burger” with a side of Thick Cut Truffle Fries. Yeah I’m hungry already!
